Barcelona Turn to Gabriel Jesus After Failing to Sign Julian Alvarez
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal have agreed to release the Brazil international for around €10 million, plus additional performance-related terms. Jesus has reportedly travelled to Spain to undergo his medical as the final stages of the transfer move forward.
Alvarez had been Barcelona’s primary attacking target throughout the summer. However, Atletico Madrid maintained that the Argentina international was not available for transfer, forcing Barcelona to explore alternative options.
The move for Jesus now appears to provide Barcelona with an experienced attacking option at a considerably lower cost than the deal they had initially pursued for Alvarez.
Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and initially established himself as an important member of Mikel Arteta’s squad. However, competition for places has intensified following the arrival and continued presence of forwards such as Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres.
That increased competition has reduced Jesus’ prospects of securing a regular starting position, while Arteta has also previously indicated that the Brazilian could consider a move away from the Emirates.
For Barcelona, Jesus offers tactical flexibility. The Brazilian can operate as a central striker but is also capable of playing in wider attacking positions, giving the coaching staff additional options when shaping the team’s forward line.
Barcelona are also continuing efforts to strengthen their attacking resources, with Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi among the players linked with moves involving the Catalan side.
If the medical and remaining formalities are completed successfully, Jesus will begin a new chapter in Spain after four seasons in the Premier League.
The potential arrival would represent Barcelona’s latest move to reshape their attack after the club’s pursuit of Alvarez failed to materialise.
